Tech Bytes: Dime Selects System For Bill Payment Plan

Dime Savings Bank of New York has chosen Online Resources and Communications Corp.'s Opus Bill Payment system for an on- line banking program it is starting this year, the vendor announced last week.

The $22 billion-asset Dime would be the largest institution to kick off Online Resources' stand-alone bill payment service and the company's second-largest client overall. The largest is California Federal Bank, now part of Golden State Bancorp, San Francisco.

Typical of other Online installations, the bill payment enhancement is to run on an automated teller machine infrastructure, in this case the NYCE network. Bills can be paid to virtually any payee, and there is a "pay on time" guarantee of two days for electronic delivery or five days for a check.

Amy Radin, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Dime, said, "Online Resources' consumer interface and bill payment mechanism match our customers' needs extremely well. Their extensive merchant data base means a higher percentage of our customers' payments will be transmitted electronically."

Of bill payments made through Online Resources, 54% are now electronic.
