In Brief: Morgan Risk Manager To Leave in Summer

J.P. Morgan & Co. said Wednesday that Stephen G. Thieke, head of corporate risk management, will retire in the summer and Peter D. Hancock, currently head of global fixed income, will take over directing capital and risk strategy.

Mr. Hancock, 40, is to be chairman of the bank's capital committee and its risk management committee.

Mr. Thieke, 51, joined Morgan in 1989 from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Morgan said Mr. Thieke had spoken privately of retirement for more than a year. Until his departure, he will continue as co-head of an industry task force examining risk management policies.

Nicolas S. Rohatyn, 38, currently head of emerging markets, is to lead an expanded credit markets group, including origination, sales, trading, and research.

William Winters, 37, head of European markets in London, is to lead an expanded foreign exchange and interest rate group.
