Short Takes: Consultant to Match Clients with Advisers

Dalbar Inc., a Boston consulting company, rolled out an on-line service recently to match clients with financial professionals.

The service is offered through Microsoft's Internet portal and has a data base of 3,000 advisers with expertise in investments and insurance, Dalbar said Wednesday.

Though banks have been slow to sign up, U.S. Bancorp and Citigroup's Salomon Smith Barney unit have done so, said Robert Powell, Dalbar's director of business development.

To get on the referral list, advisers must have been in business for five years and have 100 clients or $15 million of assets under management. They pay $750 a year to get on the list; for another $750 they can get a Dalbar quality rating.
