Capital Briefs: House Banking Panel Sets Up Hearing Dates

A House Banking Committee panel has scheduled hearings on credit union membership rules for Feb. 3 and on hedge funds for March 17.

Rep. Marge Roukema, chairwoman of the financial institutions subcommittee, said Wednesday that hearings on reducing the regulatory burden of the Community Reinvestment Act would be held by early April. The subcommittee also will address reform of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures and Truth-in-Lending acts this year.

The New Jersey Republican said that she wants to review whether the National Credit Union Administration rule easing membership requirements for the nonprofit financial institutions violates the credit union law enacted last summer.
