The Federal Reserve Bank of New York Names Executive

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has promoted Christine M. Cumming to executive vice president and director of research.

Ms. Cumming will succeed Stephen G. Cecchetti in early September, when he leaves the bank to teach at Ohio State University.

Since September 1993, Ms. Cumming has been a senior vice president in the bank's supervision group. She is responsible for specialized examinations and bank analysis.

Earlier she was a research officer and senior economist in the financial markets department. Still earlier she was chief of the New York Fed's industrial economies division.

She joined the bank in 1979 as an economist in the international research department.
