In Brief: ABN Amro Venture Capital Unit in Hungary

The Dutch banking giant ABN Amro Holding said last week that it has launched a venture capital unit in Hungary.

ABN Amro Capital (Hungary) will primarily make equity investments there but will also look for opportunities in Slovenia and Romania to finance medium-size companies with prospects for significant domestic or export sales.

Potential investments are expected to exceed $1 million each, with no limit on the total amount to invest. ABN Amro's venture grew out of Euroventures Hungary BV, one of Hungary's first venture capital funds, in which ABN Amro was a major investor.

ABN Amro has $1.25 billion in private equity around the world.
