In Brief: Two Analysts Join New Thomas Weisel Firm

Thomas Weisel Partners LLC, the San Francisco merchant bank formed by former Montgomery Securities chief executive Thomas Weisel, continues to tap talent from bank-owned firms.

Most recently, it hired equity analysts from Salomon Smith Barney and BT Alex. Brown Securities. Apparel industry analyst Faye Landes is to join Thomas Weisel from Salomon, a unit of Citigroup. And retail industry analyst Chrisopher E. Vroom joins the firm from the Bankers Trust subsidiary.

The analysts join several employees who followed Mr. Weisel from Montgomery when he left the BankAmerica Corp. subsidiary in September. Last week Weisel Partners announced hirings from both of the analysts' former employers, and from BancBoston Robertson Stephens, BankBoston Corp.'s section 20 subsidiary.

Ms. Landes, who has been ranked No. 1 in her category by both The Wall Street Journal and Institutional Investors magazine for two straight years, isbased in New York. Mr. Vroom is based in San Francisco; he is to focus, among other things, on Internet retailing. They report to Ned Zachar, head of research. The hirings bring the new firm's research staff to 10.
