Short Takes: PNC, BB&T, Wachovia Join 401(k) Coalition

PNC Bank Corp., BB&T Corp., and Wachovia Corp. have joined a coalition that tries to promote and enhance members' 401(k) capabilities.

Paul Kampner, a co-adviser to the Bank Retirement Plan Coalition, said one or two more banks may join, but the group would not expand much more than that.

Other members include First Union Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., Mercantile Bancorp. of St. Louis, and Fifth Third Bancorp of Cincinnati.

The 19-member group meets three times a year to discuss various issues relating to 401(k) plans. The group's most recent meeting was in late January.
