Card Briefs: Cash Station Unveils Selective Surcharging

Cash Station Inc. announced the formation of Agree, a selective-surcharge alliance for its members.

The automated teller machine network plans to launch Agree for 20 member banks in April. Institutions in the program pledge not to impose surcharges on one another's customers. The intent is to compete with the ATM bases of large banks, whose customers avoid surcharges by staying within the banks' own networks.

"Numerous requests from Cash Station members" led to the formation of Agree, said Kate Coleman, senior vice president of planning, marketing, and sales at Cash Station. "It will give our financial institutions the ability to respond to the changing needs of their cardholders by offering them broader access to nonsurcharging ATMs."
