In Brief: Greek Bank's N.Y. Unit To Run Chicago Office

National Bank of Greece is merging its sole Chicago office with its Atlantic Bank of New York subsidiary.

The Chicago branch, with about $56 million of assets, will be renamed Atlantic Bank, the bank said this week.

Peter L. Venetis, president and chief executive officer at $1.5 billion- asset Atlantic Bank, said the move would let the Chicago office offer more products than are available from National Bank of Greece, such as equipment leasing, sub-debt lending, and electronic letters of credit.

"As Atlantic Bank, we can offer the Chicago area a much wider array of services that meet the financial services needs of middle-market companies, small businesses, and consumers," Mr. Venetis said.

The National Bank of Greece branch is in Chicago's tony "Magnificent Mile" shopping district.

The bank also has two branches in Boston.

Atlantic Bank operates 10 branches, all in New York City.
