In Brief: Maine Gov. Nominates Successor to Regulator

Maine Gov. Angus S. King Jr. has nominated Howard R. Gray Jr. to be the state's new superintendent of banking.

Mr. Gray, a former vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, most recently served as a vice president of the card division of New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Mr. Gray's nomination requires approval of a House committee and confirmation by the state Senate. If confirmed, he will serve a five-year term. He would succeed H. Donald DeMatteis, who will retire in June after 20 years.
