Reading my old friend Karen Shaw Petrou's Viewpoint piece, 'Don't Blame the Whole Mess on Basel II,' in your Aug. 14 issue in tandem with the same issue's Viewpoint piece, 'Counter Systemic Risk Issues Countercyclically,' by outgoing Federal Housing Finance Agency Director James B. Lockhart is quite instructive.
