Alliance Data to Acquire Card Portfolio of Retailer Bon-Ton

Alliance Data Systems (ADS) in Dallas announced Tuesday that it is buying the credit card portfolio of the retailer Bon-Ton Stores.

Alliance is set to take over the management of Bon-Ton's portfolio from HSBC Bank later this month and the acquisition would give the company full control over the retailer's $475 million in card assets.

"We are privileged to be a collaborative partner to The Bon-Ton Stores, and look forward to helping them meet their sales and growth goals," Melissa Miller, the president of Alliance Data Retail Services, said in a news release.

Bon-Ton operates 272 stores, under several brand names, in 23 states across the Northeast, Midwest and Upper Great Plains.

Alliance did not disclose how much it is paying Bon-Ton for the portfolio, saying only that it is "consistent with industry norms." The sale is expected to close next quarter.

The deal would be the latest in a string of acquisitions or marketing agreements Alliance has recently announced. Over the last few months, the company has announced that it was acquiring the private-label card portfolio of jewelry retailer Premier Designs, renewed its private-label contract with furniture retailer Gardner-White and signed a multi-year deal to create a card program for online jewelry retailer Blue Nile.
