Smart Card Alliance Launches Site Dedicated to EMV Chip Technology

The nonprofit Smart Card Alliance has launched a website dedicated to helping U.S. consumers, merchants and others understand the switch from magnetic stripe cards to EMV chip technology.

Visa (NYSE:V), MasterCard (MA), American Express (AXP) and Discover Financial Services (DFS) have all developed plans that require merchants and acquirers to change over to EMV chip technology during the next few years.

The EMV Connection (www.emv-connection.com) website provides information about the change to EMV chip technology that should help various stakeholders, including issuers, merchants, payment processors and acquirers and consumers, along with tutorials and educational resources, Smart Card Alliance said Monday. It provides answers to frequently asked questions, white papers, videos, slideshows and links to other EMV resources.

The Smart Card Alliance is a multi-industry association that aims to increase the understanding of smart card technology.
