HSBC Deploys Centrify Suite to Manage Security Across Its IT Infrastructure

A maker of technology that allows banks to control access to software and systems has added another customer.

Centrify Corporation, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., said Tuesday that HSBC (HBC) is deploying a platform by Centrify to enable the bank to control access to its software and systems throughout its information technology infrastructure worldwide.

According to Centrify, HSBC will install Centrify Suite, which allows financial institutions to oversee authentication and access control centrally, as well as determine what commands each employee has permission to run. The system will allow HSBC to manage who can do what on particular machines, and to monitor security across all its servers.

"We had multiple goals for this project, including enforcing password policies, user account consolidation in Active Directory, and auditing requirements," Paul Sharpe, an enterprise technical specialist with HSBC's global information technology operations, said in a news release. "We needed to manage our Linux and UNIX systems in a centralized manner and wanted to leverage an existing directory infrastructure."

The Centrify Suite can establish accountability across data center systems, cloud servers, applications and mobile devices, according to its maker.
