Cardtronics Purchases CGI's ATMs

Cardtronics USA, a unit of Cardtronics (CATM), has purchased the ATM assets of CGI, adding 1,000 merchant-owned ATMs to Cardtronics' U.S. fleet.

Cardtronics' U.S. ATM footprint will now total more than 22,600 cash machines. All CGI Direct ATMs will be converted to the Cardtronics brand. The transaction was signed and closed on Oct 1. The companies did not disclose other terms of the deal.

The CGI transaction follows on other recent Cardtronics deals, including the acquisition of 3,300 mostly merchant-owned ATMs from Aptus Financial and 4,800 from Merrimak ATM group.

Including company-owned and managed-service portfolios, Cardtronics supports 64,300 retail ATMs in the U.S.

Cardtronics has also been active in global markets, acquiring Cardpoint to increase its presence in countries that still have a critical mass of cash transactions, such as Germany. Cardtronics also purchased marketing company i-design to increase its ability to place advertisements on ATMs.
