Add HSBC to the list of banks offering Touch ID authentication services to mobile banking customers.
The fingerprint-recognition feature developed by Apple lets customers log in to their mobile banking services without usernames and passwords. HSBC joins U.S. Bancorp, JPMorgan Chase and others that have rolled out Touch ID functionality in the last year.
"Touch ID is just one of the ways we're improving our digital services, improving the customer experience," Pablo Sanchez, head of HSBC's retail banking and wealth management units in the U.S. and Canada, said in a news release Wednesday that announced its new service. "It makes the customer experience even easier, and the added security feature is important."

The feature, which debuted for HSBC's U.K. customers earlier this year, is one of several biometrics authentication initiatives at the bank. It began offering a voice ID technology to U.K. customers this year, which cross-checks against more than 100 unique identifiers including cadence and pronunciation as well as the shape of the larynx, vocal tract and nasal passages, the bank said.
