Penns Woods in Pa. Promotes Karas to Chief Operating Officer

Penns Woods Bancorp in Williamsport, Pa., has promoted Michelle Karas to chief operating officer.

Karas' promotion at the $1.3 billion-asset company took effect March 1. In the new role, Karas oversees deposit operations, digital banking, IT, imaging, marketing, sales and training functions.

Karas joined Penns Woods in 2012 as head of institutional advancement; most recently, she was in charge of deposit operations, e-banking, information technology, imaging, marketing, sales and training at Penns Woods. She has also worked for First Columbia Bank & Trust in Bloomsburg, Pa., and Citizens & Northern Bank in Wellsboro, Pa.

Karas succeeded Robert Glunk as COO of Penns Woods. He vacated the position in 2013 to become president of Luzerne Bank, which Penns Woods had acquired.

Penns Woods is the holding company for both Luzerne Bank in Luzerne, Pa., and Jersey Shore State Bank in Williamsport.
