Bank of America Hires Utilities Executive for Tech Role

Bank of America has hired Duke Energy executive Brett Carter as chief operating officer for its global technology and operations unit.

Carter most recently worked as senior vice president of Duke Energy Carolinas, a regulated utility company, Bank of America said in a Friday news release. Carter will be based in Charlotte, N.C., and report to Cathy Bessant, head of global technology and operations.

The global technology and operations unit is Bank of America's largest division by number of employees and is responsible for the company's information technology infrastructure.

Carter's responsibilities at Bank of America will include policy governance, risk analytics and reporting, performance measurement and operational management. His hiring was first reported by Charlotte Business Journal.

Carter also previously worked for Duke Energy as chief distribution officer. He served as chairman of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce in 2013.
