Signature in N.Y. Adds Another Heavyweight to Its Board

Signature Bank in New York has added a former New York state banking supervisor to its board.

The $34 billion-asset company said in a press release Wednesday that Derrick Cephas became a director in late April, filling a vacated seat. The board continues to function with its full complement of nine directors, including former Rep. Barney Frank and former Sen. Alfonse D'Amato.

Cephas was superintendent of banks of the state of New York from 1991 to 1994, and was president and chief executive of Amalgamated Bank in New York from 2006 to 2011. He was also a banking and corporate law partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in New York, and has been a director at Dime Savings Bank, D.E. Shaw and Merrill Lynch International Bank.

Cephas is currently a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, a New York law firm.
