Valley National in N.J. Taps New President

Valley National Bancorp in Wayne, N.J., has a new president.

The $22 billion-asset company said in a press release Thursday that Rudy Schupp had also become chief banking officer at its bank. Schupp had been president of Valley's Florida division since it bought 1st United Bancorp in Boca Raton, where he had been CEO.

Valley also named Ira Robbins as its bank president. Robbins previously served as the company's treasurer.

Gerald Lipkin, who had been president of the company and the bank, will remain chairman and CEO.

The promotions emphasize "our commitment to Valley's efficiency and growth initiatives," Lipkin said in the release. "I am confident that with their strong banking experience and leadership capabilities they will continue Valley's long history of successful results."

Valley announced on Wednesday that Peter Crocitto, its chief operating officer, will retire in February.
