PNC names manufacturing, tech executives to board

PNC Financial Services Group in Pittsburgh has named three new directors from the manufacturing and technology sectors, expanding its board to 14 members.

The $381 billion-asset company appointed Joseph Alvarado, Richard Harshman and Toni Townes-Whitley to its board, effective Thursday.

“Each of these three new members of PNC's board of directors have achieved significant leadership experience and business expertise within different industries and disciplines and adding them to our board positions PNC well for continued strength and growth as our business evolves,” Chairman and CEO William Demchak said in a news release.

Alvarado is a former chairman and CEO of Commercial Metals, a manufacturer and recycler of steel and metal products based in Irving, Texas.

Harshman is chairman of Allegheny Technologies, a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer of steel products and other metal components for the aerospace, chemical and oil industries. Harshman was previously CEO of Allegheny.

Townes-Whitley is president of U.S. regulated industries at Microsoft. Townes-Whitley, the fourth woman on PNC’s board, is also an adviser to the Women’s Center of Northern Virginia.
