BankUnited to Sponsor New York Jets

BankUnited (BKU) in Miami Lakes, Fla., is ready for some football.

The $13 billion-asset company announced Thursday that it has become an "official partner" of the New York Jets. The sponsorship highlights BankUnited's stake in the New York market, John Kanas, the company's chairman, president and chief executive, said in a press release.

"Having successfully launched our banking operations in New York earlier this year, BankUnited is thrilled to partner with the New York Jets, a move that will continue to increase our visibility and raise our profile among New Yorkers," Kanas said.

BankUnited's name will be emblazoned on signs at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The financial terms were not disclosed.

The company opened four branches in the New York area this year in a move to expand beyond Florida. But it hasn't forsaken the Sunshine State. In August, BankUnited bought the naming rights to the Miami Dolphins' premium stadium seats.
