Aetna to Purchase a Global Underwriter

The Hartford health care benefits company Aetna Inc. has an agreement to acquire Goodhealth Worldwide, a Bermuda underwriting agent for international private medical insurance, from Primary Group Inc.

The deal was announced Tuesday. The price was not disclosed. Aetna expects to finance the transaction from available cash and close it within 30 days.

Goodhealth provides international private medical insurance for expatriates and high-net-worth individuals, with a strong focus on emerging markets such as Asia and Africa. It would become a unit of Aetna Global Benefits, the company's international business for expatriates.

Aetna serves about 34.9 million people.
