First Republic Bank of San Francisco hired Douglas M. Smith as a managing director.
Mr. Smith, who has 15 years of banking and real estate experience, will work with wealthy individuals and families, providing private banking, private business banking, investment management and trust, and real estate lending services at First Republic's office in Boston.
He was a senior vice president and team leader of commercial real estate for Eastern Bank in Boston. Before that he had been the president of First National Bank of Ipswich's Boston division.
First Republic, which announced the hiring last week, has offices in San Diego, Las Vegas, Portland, Ore., Seattle, Boston, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Newport Beach, Calif.
