AUGUSTA, Maine – A local relief worker completed her cross-state walk on behalf of the Maine CU League's annual Ending Hunger Walking Tour last Thursday, raising $25,000 along the way.
As part of the initiative, the league donated $100 to each of the local food banks, $6,500 to the Good Shepherd Food Bank and $8,000 to Cross Roads Ministries, to celebrate the 755-mile walk by their director, Brenda Davis.
Davis made stops all along her route at credit unions: Maine Education CU, the Alliance of Maine FCU, Capital Area FCU and Kennebec Valley FCU; then continued the following day to Gardiner FCU, Riverview FCU, Winthrop Area FCU and Monmouth FCU.
The credit unions’ annual fundraiser has contributed more than $115,000 to the state’s food banks since its inception in 2002.
