TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Tuscaloosa Chevrolet and Alabama Credit Union have partnered to host the first Alabama Ice Cream Churning Championships on Aug. 17.
Up to 30 teams of groups or individuals will compete for the top prize of the “Golden Scoop” plaque and $1,000. The prize for second place is $250, with $100 going to third place. Registration is free and open until all 30 spots are filled.
Teams will be asked to make two batches of ice cream one to have judged and one for members of the public attending the event to taste. Any ice cream left over from the judge’s batch will also go to the public. Admission is free, but donations for Secret Meals for Hungry Children will be accepted throughout the event.
Secret Meals for Hungry Children is a partnership between Alabama Credit Union, regional food banks and volunteers to discreetly provide weekend meals for children school officials identify as going without nutrition over the weekends.
