Alaska USA Federal Credit Union in Anchorage is changing its name to Global Credit Union starting April 3.
The $12 billion-asset institution — the 18th-largest credit union in the country by assets — is making the change to better reflect its worldwide service to its members, it said Thursday. The new name also connects to a recent update to the credit union's charter that allows anyone working for the Department of Defense — anywhere in the world — to join the credit union.

"As this name change is implemented, our members will continue to receive the products and professional service they have come to know and expect from us," the organization's president and CEO, Geoff Lundfelt, said in a press release. "Our members will also continue to see us in the community as we interact, engage, and invest to make our communities a better place to live, work and play."
This is not the first time the organization has embraced a name change. Global Credit Union is the fifth name in the organization's history, it said.
Founded in 1948, Alaska USA has more than 750,000 members who live in all 50 states and in more than 20 foreign countries. The company operates 76 branches in Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Washington and Italy.
Alaska USA earned $60.3 million in the first nine months of 2022, a 30% decrease compared with a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.
