ERIE, Penn. – A member of Erie FCU Tuesday pleaded innocent to charges he defrauded the credit union of more than $160,000 and posed as a decorated U.S. Army officer.

Prosecutors charge that 33-year-old Dale Farr deposited $13,475 in phony checks on Aug. 14, 2006, then withdrew the funds before the credit union realized the checks were drawn on closed accounts. A week later, they allege, he deposited a phony check for $150,158 payable to himself, then wired $130,000 of it to his bank account.
Farr also was charged with lying about receiving Army medals, including the Silver Star and Purple Heart, to get a military discount on the purchase of a car and get a Purple Heart on his license plate.
