FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Sixty-six credit union mergers were completed during the third quarter, representing $868-million in total assets, according to analysis by Merger Solutions Group. In addition, 57 credit unions received preliminary approval of their mergers in the third quarter of 2007 with an average size of more than $21 million per merging CU.

"This is a significantly lower number than the 81 mergers approved by the NCUA in Q3 2006 with a total merged volume of $1.1 billion," Merger Solutions Group said. Credit unions in NCUA Region IV saw the most activity with the approval of 16 mergers totaling over $276 million in assets. Region V experienced the highest merger volume with just over $654 million in total assets being transferred through 13 mergers.
