PHOENIX — Of the 19 firefighters who were killed here fighting the wildfire in Yarnell, Ariz., seven have now been confirmed as members of Arizona State Credit Union.

Originally, the credit union had believed two of the firefighters were among its members.

ASCU is offering a variety of assistance, including creation of a relief fund to which it is matching contributions up to $20,000 to help the families of the firefighters, and victims of the fire that has devastated half the community. In addition, it is making low-interest emergency loans available, waiving early withdrawal penalties and allowing skip-payments or rewrites on loans.

"These brave men were great examples of giving their all to save their community," said CEO Dave Doss. "The cooperative nature of credit unions is founded in this ideal, people helping people. In this case seven of our members lived that motto and as a result gave their lives. We cannot do enough to honor their memories and their sacrifice."
