ATM Thief Sentenced To Prison

- TAMPA, Fla.(12/18/01) - Paul Mathieson, suspectedin the 1998 heist of a GTE FCU ATM in Largo, Fla., was sentencedlast week to 20 years in prison for his role as head of amulti-million-dollar jewel-theft ring. Mathieson, 42, pleadedguilty to charges he stole millions of dollars in jewels, gold andguns from stores around Florida. Mathieson, who has already servedseveral years in prison in Miami, tried to renege on a pleaagreement at the last minute but was prevented form doing so by thejudge who said the plea deal was binding.
