Bank Transfer Day Advocate Innocent In Anti-Bank Graffiti Case

SAN DIEGO – A man who drew multi-colored anti-bank messages in chalk urging customers transfer their funds to a credit union outside of three Bank of America branches during the height of the Bank Transfer Day movement was found innocent of vandalism charges in state court yesterday.

Jeff Olson said he drew the messages, all of them critical of BofA, because of his dissatisfaction with the fees charged by huge banks. The San Diego City Attorney’s Office, using a city ordinance aimed at gang graffiti, charged Olson with 13 counts of vandalism for using children’s chalk, which can be washed off, to spread the Bank Transfer Day messages in late 2011 and early 2012.

Olson had faced up to 13 years in prison and up to $13,000 in fines.
