Bethpage FCU Treats Local Non-Profits To Educational Trip To DC

BETHPAGE, N.Y. – Bethpage FCU paid for a delegation of Long Island nonprofits to travel to Washington, D.C., last week to learn how to strengthen government relations.

The $3 billion credit union paid for representatives of 19 Long Island nonprofit organizations to travel to Washington in a “fly-in” last Thursday. It was the first fly-in sponsored by the credit union since 2007.

U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, D-Huntington, led discussion groups with the nonprofits, who participated in educational presentations and meetings lead by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Funding opportunities with the Department of Health and Human Services also were discussed.

The nonprofit leaders also took part in workshops on grant writing and the federal appropriations process.
