RICHMOND, Va. - (07/19/05) -- State regulators said Newport NewsShipbuilding Employees' CU has applied for the largest communitycharter in the state. The request would allow the $900 millionNewport News-based credit union to serve more than 1.6 millionpeople in the Virginia Beach area, including the communities ofHampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth,Franklin, Williamsburg, Poquoson and Suffolk; as well as thecounties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Southampton,Surry and York.
