Bill Would Require Security Cameras At Night Deposit Boxes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The state Senate last week approved a bill that would require credit unions and banks to post security cameras at night deposit boxes.

The bill was prompted by a fatal shooting of a local gas station manager on his way to make a night deposit at a Citizen’s Bank branch in September 2010. The man charged with the murder, Jason Pleau, is the now subject of a struggle between federal authorities and Gov. Lincoln Chafee, who has declined to relinquish Pleau from state to federal custody, since he could face the death penalty under federal law.

The bill will now go to the House of Representatives.
