SEATTLE – After a brief trial that last less than an hour, a former bookkeeper at Alaska Airlines/Horizons Air Employees FCU was found guilty yesterday of embezzling almost $109,000 from the credit union.
The trial was so short because Della Dimond stipulated to all the key facts, leaving almost nothing in dispute, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Brown.
Dimond started work at the credit union in 2001 and was the sole employee who counted up the cash every day. In November 2003, the credit-union president and vice president noticed that huge amounts of cash had gone missing, almost all in $50s and $100s. When they confronted her she simply told them she quit and walked out the door.
In April 2004, federal agents questioned her about the missing cash and she denied taking the money. Then she said, "I'm tired of fighting. I stole the money and I spent it. That's what you want to hear, right?" according to court records.
