After nationwide search, Central Minnesota CU finds next CEO at home

Charles Friederichs has been appointed president and CEO of Central Minnesota Credit Union.

Friederichs has been with the credit union for more than a decade and was named interim CEO last year following the departure of longtime chief executive Richard Odenthal, who left to pursue other opportunities, according to CMCU.

“To say I am honored is an understatement,” Friederichs said in a press release. “I have spent the past 11 years preparing for this opportunity and I am humbled the board has placed their confidence in me to lead this organization and continue serving the membership and the community at Central Minnesota Credit Union.”

Friederichs has spent more than three decades in the financial services industry and has served as chief financial officer and chief operations officer at the $1.1 billion-asset institutions since coming aboard in 2008.

Before joining the credit union movement, Friederichs was senior vice president and chief information officer of Fauquier Bank. He also held information technology roles at MetaBank and First Federal Savings Bank of the Midwest Meta after a decade as an examiner at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Moorhead State University.

Prior to Friederichs’ permanent appointment, recruiting firm D. Hilton Associates Inc. conducted a nationwide search for a chief executive.
