SOLON, Ohio The CEO of Taupa Lithuanian CU, being sought on fraud allegations, apparently escaped a stand-off with police and the FBI this morning and is now at large.
The FBI said Alex Spirikaitis, who headed the $24 million Cleveland credit union until its Monday takeover by NCUA and state regulators, is now wanted and had a warrant issued for his arrest.
When police entered the house, they discovered Spirikaitis was no longer in the home, and the standoff has come to an end. Officials do not know where Spirikaitis is at this time.
Police went to arrest him last night but said he barricaded himself inside of his home. His family was home at the time and left the premises when instructed by the responding officials. The stand-off was ongoing from 8 pm last night until just before noon.
The FBI and local police agencies stayed at the scene throughout the night and attempted to communicate with Spirikaitis by using a loudspeaker.
Authorities said they will offering a reward but have not released an amount at this time.
