SALT LAKE CITY – A computer glitch at Desert First CU temporarily eliminated the requirement for a PIN to access member accounts last week. As a result, any combination would have worked.

The problem, caused by the implementation of a new computer system last month, was repaired, apparently preventing any fraud or unauthorized access to accounts, according to credit union officials.
The glitch happened because the new computer system requires a third-part communication to verify PINs, while the old system verified PINs in-house.
