MACON, Ga. – Two outlaws were arrested in Pensacola yesterday and charged with a Dec. 28 armed robbery at Park Community FCU, when thieves took every last dollar from the credit union branch and then some–more than $230,000.
The two suspects were captured by agents for the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force at the Econo Lodge on Highway 29, where they had checked in under assumed names. The agents had to break down the door of their room, where they found a small amount of cash that was traced to the credit union theft, according to the U.S. Marshal’s office.
The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Carmilla Davis and 27-year-old Merkuri Stanback, allegedly burst into the credit union that morning, forced employees and members into a back room and tied them up, then cleaned out every last bill from the teller stations and the vault–then took several of the members’ and employees’ purses with them.
In their haste to get away, the robbers dropped about $48,000 in the parking lot.
A third suspect, identified as 29-year-old Frederick Clay, was arrested the same night of the robbery, at which time Davis and Stanback are believed to have fled the area. A search of Stanback’s apartment turned up weapons believed used in the heist, as well as $122,000 in cash–a large amount of it stained with red dye.
