WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -
The Credit Union Journal celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2007 with a redesigned format and new paper stock, along with refocused editorial coverage and a host of special reports throughout the year that were all reflective of the Journal’s core mission: help credit unions of all sizes to grow their operations and serve their members.
Readers responded enthusiastically to those changes, including better color reproduction of photos and graphics; tighter, shorter stories that recognize credit union leaders and decision-makers are pressed for time; editorial content focused on specific strategies being deployed at credit unions that can serve as models for others; “For More Info” information boxes with most stories showing readers where they can turn for additional resources on the subject; compelling and provocative opinions and editorials that stirred credit unions to think of issues in new ways, and extensive coverage of credit unions in their communities.
Throughout the year the Journal produced targeted, insightful Special Reports, including a “7 in 07” series on seven critical issues; product pricing; growth strategies; lending practices, and an ongoing series examining the future of credit unions, beginning with an analysis of the “Big Dogs” and then exploring and profiling, successful credit unions in other asset size groups, including small CUs (the Chihuahuas) and medium-size CUs (the Collies).
It wasn’t just on the pages of the newspaper that the Journal sought to bring innovations and unique experiences to the credit union community. As part of its annual Business Development & SEG Conference, the Journal hosted “A Night At the Museum” at America’s Credit Union Museum in Manchester, N.H., where attendees spent an evening reviewing artifacts from the history of credit unions. Looking to the future, meanwhile, the Credit Union Journal added numerous enhancements to www.cujournal.com, including an extensive archive of all news reported since the year 2000, a searchable database, the weekly print issue available every Monday, and at mid-year, the Journal added updated rate tracking on both loan and deposit products, allowing CUs to compare themselves to national and regional peer averages. All is available at no extra charge to subscribers.
