SAN DIEGO A man who robbed a Navy FCU branch this morning was arrested outside his residence after a tracking device inserted in the stolen bag of cash allowed a police helicopter to follow him all the way home.
Investigators said a man in his 20s walked into the credit union at 10:15 am and presented a demand note to a teller saying he had a bomb, then made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
After the robbery, the suspect evaded police in a high-speed chase, then ran into a home 15 miles away in Chulsa Vista where he lived. A short time later, he emerged wearing different clothing and walked back to a parked Chrysler PT Crusier he had used as the getaway car. At that point officers took him into custody without a struggle.
The stolen credit union money was recovered from the car.
