CUES, Board Source Publish Study

The Credit Union Executives Society, in partnership with Board Source, and leadership development organization for board members of nonprofit organizations, has published "Credit Union Board Self-Assessment: A Research Study."

Free to CUES members, it was written by Dr. Berit M. Lakey, senior consultant with Board Source, and George Hofheimer, VP-professional development and product research at CUES. It is based on assessments from CUES' Self-Assessment for Credit Union Boards, an evaluation tool that identifies board satisfaction as well as areas that need improvement.

"This research provides insights and information from 291 board members representing a wide spectrum of credit union asset sizes, fields of membership, and experience," CUES said. "The study was conducted to help gain knowledge about credit union governance issues; provide information for credit unions to build stronger, more strategic-focused boards; and to encourage the emergence of board self-assessment as a standard practice in credit unions."

"BoardSource and CUES have combined their research efforts to provide credit union executives valuable information to help credit union boards reach their fullest potential," said Hofheimer. "Now more than ever, it's important that credit union volunteers understand their role and raise the bar on their performance."
