WASHINGTON – CUNA reported Monday that it made almost $300,000 in campaign contributions in June to 120 members of the House and Senate, as voting is approaching on key legislation.
Contributions went to: Barney Frank, the Democratic chairman of the House Financial Services Committee ($8,000) and Spencer Bachus, the leading Republican on the panel ($5,000); House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ($5,000); and Sen. Charles Schumer, who has promised legislation to lift the cap on member business lending ($2,000).
Also receiving contributions were: Charlie Christ, the Republican governor of Florida who is running for the Senate ($5,000); New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand ($5,000); and leadership PACs for Republican Rep. Wally Herger ($5,000); Republican Rep. Jack Kingston ($1,000) and Democratic Rep. John Larson ($5,000).
CUNA’s political action committee, one of the most active in Washington, has spent $715,000 so far this year and had $561,000 of cash on hand at the end of June.
