WASHINGTON – CUNA said its political action committee raised $112,000 last month and made $79,000 in campaign contributions, building its cash war chest to $953,000 as the two-year congressional campaign cycle heats up.
Contributions last month went to several important leaders who will guide important credit union-related bills in the coming months, including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md. ($1,000); House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C. ($1,500); Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leah, D-Vt. ($2,500); House Republican Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va. ($1,000); House Financial Services Ranking Republican Spencer Bachus (a $5,000 contribution to his Growth and Prosperity leadership PAC); and, Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander (a contribution of 5,000 to his Tenn Political Action Committee leadership PAC).
That follows contributions the month before of $15,000 each to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Republican National Committee, National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
CUNA also made $5,000 donations to a variety of so-called leadership PACs that will benefit both parties: to the Southern California Fund; Blue Dog PAC, for conservative Democrats; the New Democrat Coalition, all for Democrats; and, the Senate Conservative Fund; the House Conservatives Fund; the Tuesday Group; and, the Republican Mainstreet Partnership PAC, for Republicans.
CUNA is expected to make more than $3 million in campaign contributions this election season, making it one of the most active PACs on Capitol Hill.
