WASHINGTON – CUNA reported yesterday it backed two winners of special congressional races earlier month, in Ohio and Virginia.
CUNA’s PAC contributed $5,000 to Bob Latta, the Ohio Republican winner of the seat of Paul Gilmor, the 10-term House member who died in September; and $5,000 to Rob Whittman, the Virginia Republican who the seat of Jo Ann Davis, the four-term Republican who died last month.
CUNA also contributed $5,000 to Steve Austria, the Ohio Republican vying to succeed David Hobson, the nine-term House member who is retiring this year; and the maximum allowable $10,000 to former Nebraska Governor and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns, who is running for the Senate seat being vacated by Chuck Hagel.
CUNA also contributed $14,000 to four different leadership PACs: IMPACT, for New York Sen. Chuck Schumer ($5,000); The Freedom Project, a Republican PAC ($5,000); AmeriPAC, for House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland ($2,500) and 21st Century PAC, California Republican Buck McKeon’s PAC ($1,500).
CUNA has contributed almost $150,000 to leadership PACs so far this year, enabling the credit union lobby to contribute twice to many congressional leaders; once to their personal campaigns and once to their leadership PACs.
