CUNA Rebuilds Campaign Warchest Up To $445,000

WASHINGTON - CUNA said its political action committee, one of the most powerful on Capital Hill, raised $198,000 last month and made $96,000 in campaign contributions, building its campaign warchest up to $445,000, just as the second year of the two-year campaign cycle is beckoning.

The biggest contributions last month went to: Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), $5,000; Reps. Ben Chandler (D-KY), $5,000; John Lewis (D-GA), 3,000; Wally Herger (R-CA), $2,500; Steve Buehrer, a Republican House candidate from Ohio, $5,000 and Nikie Tsongas, a Massachusetts Democrat and widow of former Sen. Paul Tsongas who won a special election to the House last month, $4,000.

CUNA also contributed $4,000 to the National Leadership PAC, an organization supporting Democratic candidates.
