CUs Announce Name, Membership Changes

Cathedral Credit Union has changed its name to Compass Credit Union, with a new tagline, "Pointing You in the Right Direction." President John Gunther said the name change reflects the expanded field of membership. With the name change Compass CU is also introducing home banking, bill pay, and relationship banking. The credit union was founded in 1954 as St. Joseph Cathedral Parish Credit Union. It is the second CU to use the name Compass Credit Union, joining another in Oswego, N.Y.

In Portland, Maine, Government Employees Credit Union of Maine has changed its name to cPORT Credit Union. The CU said it made the move following FOM expansions.

In Warwick, R.I., Warwick Municipal Credit Union is changing its name to Anchor Federal Credit Union.

In Garden City, N.Y., Nassau County Federal Credit Union (NCFCU) recently changed its name to Nassau Financial Federal Credit Union to better reflect its adoption of a community-based charter. With the new charter anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers or goes to school in Nassau County, New York will be able to join the $248-million CU.
