FLINT, Mich. A convicted felon pleaded guilty to a May 30, 2012 armed robbery at Dort FCU, when $380,000 was taken.
John Lassiter pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of armed bank robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during a violent crime.
Authorities say Lassiter and another suspect entered the credit union around 10 a.m. with guns drawn and wearing gloves and face coverings. Lassiter jumped the teller counter and proceeded to the cash vault, where the branch manager and an assistant were counting a recent cash delivery.
Lassiter forced the credit union employees to put numerous bundles of money into a pillowcase. The other suspect remained in the credit union lobby with his gun drawn.
Both suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle. The other suspect is still at large and the cash unaccounted for.
Sentencing for Lassiter, who served previous state prison terms for a 1989 conviction of assault with intent to murder and a 1994 conviction of armed robbery, is scheduled for Nov. 12.
Authorities say Lassiter also was responsible for an April 30, 2012 robbery of $18,000 at a Citizens Bank branch. Charges were not filed against Lassiter for the Citizens Bank robbery, but the plea agreement calls for him to pay restitution for the robbery.
